Dear Friends,
In searching the scriptures for passages about patience last week, I came across these words from 2 Peter 3:8-9 (NIV),
“With the Lord a day is like a thousand years, and a thousand years are like a day. The Lord is not slow in keeping his promise, as some understand slowness. Instead he is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance.”
We humans often find ourselves wondering why God allows the evil that humans do to go on as it does. Apparently, God allows so many atrocities to continue because he so desperately wants everyone to come to himself. God is waiting and waiting in order to give people every possible chance to turn around.
This makes me think about two things. One is that, if God can tolerate all this evil in the hope of another child coming home, I can surely tolerate my small part of it. And the other is that, if God’s children coming home is this important, then I should get busy helping to share the good news!
A prayer for today:
God, lift my eyes up from my own troubles and from the conflicts of this world to see you and your heart of love for humanity. Give me patience like yours and use me to spread the message of your love and forgiveness around the world. Amen.
Love in Christ,
Michelle
