The Health Benefits of Knowing Jesus

by Michelle Wilson on November 05, 2024

Dear Friends,

Do you long for a greater sense of peace and-well being in your life? According to both Proverbs 3 and numerous studies, submitting your life to God significantly increases both your physical and emotional health. Here are verses 7-8 of Proverbs 3 in my own translation.

“Do not be wise in your own eyes;
Fear the Lord and turn away from evil.
This will be healing to your body
And refreshment to your bones.”

God is often portrayed as a killjoy who doesn’t want people to have fun. But this turns out to be a great lie. If you attend to the teachings of Jesus and order your life accordingly, you’ll find that Jesus’ teachings consistently steer you away from choices that are physically, emotionally, and spiritually unhealthy and toward those things that bring joy and overall thriving to your life. Not only that, but there are direct physical, emotional, and spiritual health benefits to connecting with God, the one who gives life to the world.

Check out John 1:1-5 (NIV). The “Word” in this passage is a reference to Jesus.

“In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was with God in the beginning. Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made. In him was life, and that life was the light of all mankind. The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.”

To connect with Jesus is to connect with the one who made you and who gave you life. He is able to teach you how to care for yourself. And he is also able to directly care for you and breathe life and health into you because he wrote, has, and is the owner’s manual for your life. To know him and walk with him is to thrive. And no evil or darkness can drown out his light.

A prayer:
Be with me Jesus. Teach me how to care for myself and to live a life of peace. Breathe your life into me today and cause me to thrive. Amen.

Love in Christ,
Michelle
