Dear Friends,
Every time we go to Palomar Mountain together, I am struck by the beauty of creation and by the way in which all the world is teeming with life. During my time of silence in the early morning on Saturday and Sunday, I heard birds all around me seeming to sing praises to God. I could feel in my body a resonance with God's life-giving breath in the trees and all the creatures of the forest. I felt suddenly aware that even the dirt beneath my feet was full of tiny creatures who live in the soil. All of this reminds me again that God is at work all around us even though we often are not paying attention.
This week, I have been reading Acts 14:17 (NIV), "He has not left himself without testimony: He has shown kindness by giving you rain from heaven and crops in their seasons; he provides you with plenty of food and fills your hearts with joy.” Nature and its changing seasons, each with their own beauty and purpose, are meant to make us think of God. As is the food we eat that comes from the earth and the life that covers it. In all these things, God is crying out a love song if we will only stop to listen.
A prayer for today:
Father in heaven, slow me down and turn my attention to the beauty of the earth and all its many living things. Let me not take any of this for granted but stop to see your hand at work and to hear the delight and passion of your song. Let my voice and my heart and my life respond in worship. Amen.
Love in Christ,
Michelle
