Dear Friends,
This week, I want to share with you a poem by an unknown 15th century author. The poem appears in the introduction to a little book of readings for advent and Christmas called Watch for the Light that I have been enjoying each morning for the last several days.
Lo, in the silent night
A child to God is born
And all is brought again
That ere was lost or lorn
Could but thy soul, O man,
Become a silent night!
God would be born in thee
And set all things aright.
At Christmas time, the story is told and retold of the advent (meaning arrival) of Jesus, (also called Immanuel, meaning God with us) as a newborn baby in Bethlehem long years ago. But this poem reminds me that the advent of Jesus is not really a past event. Jesus continues to arrive today in the hearts of all those who are willing to welcome him, bringing light and life into the darkness of our world. Will you welcome him with me?
A Prayer:
Jesus, come and be born in me. Let your divine presence take up residence within me, filling me with your light and setting everything right in me. Amen.
Love in Christ,
Michelle
