Dear Friends,
This week, I have been reflecting on Psalm 16, especially on the second verse,
I say to the Lord, “You are my Lord;
apart from you I have no good thing.”
-Psalm 16:2 (NIV)
Apart from you, I have no good thing. This is such a simple statement, and it is so profoundly true. Every single thing in all the universe that is good comes from God. So, there is no sense in pursuing anything else. Everything that is worth having is found in him.
If we really believe this is true, then we will pursue God with all we have and without distraction. The only trouble comes from our imagination that there may be something else out there that is better. Entertaining this delusion always ultimately leads to heartache.
Everything that is good comes from God. Ask him to help you to believe that today and to help you enter more and more into all the good he has for you.
A prayer for today:
Father, thank you for every good thing in my life. I see that all of this comes from you and nothing that is good comes from anywhere else. So, I put myself in your hands. Help me to trust you and to seek you only. Amen.
